ColorOS 12 Update Hands-On & First Look top Features Of ColorOS 12

ColorOS 12 Update Hands-On & First Look top Features Of ColorOS 12 so let’s start.

There’s another thing if you notice 3-4 years ago, the major software updates used to come after 3-6 months.

Right now, Android 12 is released on October 5, 2021, & after 3-4 days we have the OPPO phone with ColorOS 12 on Android 12, which means, the updates will be coming soon & that’s very impressive & very helpful for consumers like you.

I’m going to talk about ColorOS 12 & what are the new features that are added but the way ColorOS is evolving, it’s impressive!

UI Experience

Firstly, it has everything a consumer wants, but at the same time, the UI experience has got close to Stock Android means the customizations that you like have improved drastically & it doesn’t feel heavy or bulky (It looks clean).

If you’re using any OPPO phone after 2019, then you’ll get this update so let me get that out of the way and OPPO phones from the last 2 years will get ColorOS 12.

And when we updated it, there was a 4.52GB update, so it’s a huge update and your phone should also expect the same size of an update!

The 1st time you install & watch the home screen for the 1st time then there isn’t much difference.

But as you pull down the notifications panel, you’ll see the difference, it used to look very cluttered before but now it’s very minimalistic & looks spacious.

The distance between the icons has increased, but it looks very simplistic & I’d say it’s very user-friendly and now you can easily reach all icons on the screen with 1 hand. (So the notifications panel has improved).

If you go to the settings, you’ll immediately notice the difference between the design elements and there’s a lot of color in ColorOS and this UI is colorful!

coloros 12 customization

There’s color but the level of customization is seriously good but in ColorOS 12, you can add the color you want for your icons, theme, etc & you can change it the way you want.

There’s 1 stand-out feature like the ColorOS 11, the Always On Display, & how much you can customize it, this means, the customization levels were really good, now you can not just add different images but you can even add texts/images.

Take any picture/portrait, & it’ll create its silhouette so the customizations have gone a step further!

And just like color customization, imagine if I want a particular color’s theme, like any color (red) and I just have to click its picture & it’ll provide 8-10 different wallpapers via AI with those colors in it.

So click photos if you like color & get those wallpapers!

when you swipe/touch, there’s a slight nice improvement in the transitions/animations you see and OPPO calls it Quantum Animation Engine 3.0, so there are a lot of improvements in that!

Now the icons that you press/close/move, get some weight & you’ll see some natural movement and you’ll have to use it to know it, you won’t understand when you see/use it the 1st time.

But as you go into details, you’ll notice that difference.

Battery Optimization

Oppo color os battery optimization

If you look at Battery dashboards in the Settings, you’ll visually know the amount of battery and you can see it in percentage but those animations & images provided are much improved. It’s very user-friendly!

And you might have the question that there are so many animations/customization options, It’ll eat up more battery In fact, OPPO claims that the battery has been more efficient by 12% because of the UI.

So now the battery will run for another 12% if you update it to the latest ColorOS 12!

Phone Manager

There’s this 1 app which was present earlier as well which is your phone’s dashboard & it shows everything!

Storage/virus scanning/privacy/app management/battery/blocks & filters etc & it’s all redesigned and it looks like an eye-candy with improved placement so, in terms of designing, OPPO has done a really good job.

The data that’s presented looks very good and for virus scan, ColorOS 12 has partnered with Avast so you get that virus scanning software in this phone management.

Let’s talk about Android 12, the biggest difference between Android 11 & 12 is privacy and privacy has gone much beyond, you get a Privacy dashboard in Privacy, where you can check out which app is using which permission.

And not just that, you can even check the permissions used by apps in the last hour too.

There’s a timeline to it so it gets very to know which app has used the microphone/camera and you get shortcuts in the notifications panel eg) if you want to disable the microphone & camera for any app to not use it.

So there’s a simple icon here, which enables/disables permissions for your camera & microphone.

You know there are many apps that require location permissions.

Now you can allow it but you can give it an exact location or an approximate location means, it won’t provide the exact location but it’ll allow an approximate location to the app.

There’s another thing added in Privacy when you use any app, & it uses your camera/microphone, then you’ll get icons above on the top that indicate the app is using the camera or microphone.

So in terms of privacy, it’s moved ahead & that’s good.

Language Support

There are some India-specific features eg) ColorOS supports 13 local languages and there are a total of 67 languages & it includes 13 Indian languages that it supports so that’s good.

Smart Sidebar

There are some small features eg) Smart Sidebar is now improved with better design & good icon placements.

There are many improvements in screenshots, the 3 finger screenshots are available, but now they’ve taken it to the next level & added more features.

There’s another feature, where you can translate for eg) If you scan a document & translate a text from it in another language, then you can do it through the screenshot.

Just select that text & you’ll get that translation.

Power Saving Mode

It shows you what needs to stop running and how much battery it’ll save.

So it actually tells you that these apps are consuming battery & that they need to stop for more battery life.

Nearby Share

You can now share WiFi passwords using Nearby Share, Just turn on Nearby Share, share the WiFi password & you’re done.

which OPPO phones are getting the major updates?

If you look at their flagship series, the Find X Series, they’ll get 3 years of major software updates with 4 years of security updates.
